2nd June 2023.

Monday’s proposed trip became Wednesday’s cancellation which became a beautiful return to Chirk Castle on Friday 2nd June, and a hat-trick of visits since this time last Summer. Then it was an early morning raid when barely open, let alone to the public, and I stalked the grounds alone before I returned at the height of last Summer’s heat-wave. Yesterday, when all our troubles seemed so far away, my beautiful Beatles loving son and I had a quite splendid stroll around the gardens of this 13th Century “Magnificent Medieval Fortress of the Welsh Marches”.
Chirk Castle | Wrexham | Wales

But you simply can’t visit the Welsh town of Chirk without seeing its world famous and world heritage status canal aqueduct too which at 710 feet long and 70 feet above the River Ceiriog below is the “sister” aqueduct to its more famous sibling just along the Llangollen Canal at Pontcysyllte, for two centuries the tallest navigable canal in the world. As an added extra, we’ll start from the aqueduct before marvelling at the gardens that surround the town’s incredible castle.
So kick off your shoes, pour yourself a glass of wine or break into those chocolate biscuits you’ve stored secretly in the cupboard, and I hope you enjoy this pictorial stroll in beautiful Wales.
