a method used in protein engineering that mimics the process of natural selection to steer proteins or nucleic acids toward a user-defined goal.[1] It consists of subjecting a gene to iterative rounds of mutagenesis (creating a library of variants), selection (expressing those variants and isolating members with the desired function) and amplification (generating a template for the next round). It can be performed in vivo (in living organisms), or in vitro (in cells or free in solution). Directed evolution is used both for protein engineering as an alternative to rationally designing modified proteins, as well as for experimental evolution studies of fundamental evolutionary principles in a controlled, laboratory environment.

Why is a pharmaceutical company so keen to direct evolution?
Who gave them this Godlike authority?
Why does the phrase “Directed Evolution” gnaw at the very fibre of my being?
Why is only ONE mainstream “News” channel covering this?
“Directed Evolution” isn’t quite as warm and fuzzy as “Safe and Effective” is it?
And why aren’t you fucking angry about this?

OK, it’s clear that the Pfizer executive was being playful and flirty and I tend to agree he was being open to try and impress his date. I also see a crazed, panicked man after the undercover team reveal themselves before the whole sordid show turns very ugly indeed.
For this, please watch the video attached above from the ONLY news source covering this story and commence watching from exactly 12 minutes onward. There you will see an ugly confrontation, panic, anxiety and the smashing of a laptop amid calls to the Police from an understandably distressed man.
In between the appearance of a playful romantic date and the panic and distress of being “caught out” by an undercover team, we have a litany of horribly worrying statements. This is “bad for America”, as is the “Gain of Function” that should be horrifying the world, and a world full of “cash cows”. There are tales of Pfizer talking internally of deliberately “mutating viruses” and of a “revolving door for all Government officials” amongst many, many more statements that should be front and centre of every news outlet the world over.
Why isn’t this story headline news around the known world?
Why is Fox News the only news outlet carrying this story?
When did the Pharmaceutical Industry become God?
