Ironbridge Gorge, 7th April 2023 (Author’s Collection).
As regular readers to my travel articles will attest, I’m rather obsessed with this quaint, picturesque and historic town on the banks of the River Severn. So with a rising Easter temperature and a guarantee of a blue sky full of sunshine, I bribed my beautiful son with breakfast beside the river and a trip to the “Old Fashioned Sweet Shop” in return for accompanying me on a favourite stroll that I’ll never tire of. Only a short ramble this one, from the ducks of nearby Coalbrookdale and along the locally known “Wharfage” through to Ironbridge itself and, for a change in these articles, I’ve included a number from the tiny museum that was once the “Toll House”.
All images captured by me on a late morning turning into an early afternoon of beautiful sunshine, and I hope you enjoy this pictorial stroll back in time.
From the “Viewing Platform” that affords you a perfect view of the coming stroll toward the iron bridge herself as the river narrows at the top of the picture. Usually a very busy area at the bottom of this picture for some very hungry ducks, but the majority were scared away by their arch nemesis, a playful dog!

A return view from whence we came and back toward Coalbrookdale as the River Severn winds its way toward nearby Shrewsbury.
A forward and onward view of the River Severn as it meanders its way toward the world’s first iron bridge.

I never tire of this view or the even better vantage point from the viewing platform (bottom left).

“When the weather is fine then you know it’s a sign, for messing about on the river”.
