Wrenbury on the Llangollen Canal, 28th May 2023.
The stretch of the Llangollen Canal running through the Cheshire village of Wrenbury had long been on my “visiting list” and with the UK in the middle of the first “mini-heatwaves” that pockmark our Summers these days, I had the very real pleasure of taking the images that follow in this brief pictorial stroll alongside a canal in the north west of England. Walking along both the Shropshire Union and here, the Llangollen Canal, many boats originate from or are moored here at Wrenbury so I had to pay a visit and I was pleasantly surprised at what I found.
Take for example the picture above that accompanies the headline of this article. It would appear to be “staged” at first glance with an old fashioned car permanently stationed at the side of a road running alongside the canal. But no, the car is in full working order with the owner, having passed through the “Stop” Junction separating vehicular and human foot traffic from the canal (a picturesque and unique selling point of this particular stretch of canal) stopping to admire the canal boats passing through the very same Junction scored through the village by the “cut” of the canal.
What follows is a two mile loop of the Llangollen Canal running through Wrenbury (or Wrenbury-cum-Frith to give the village its full title) with all images captured on Sunday 28th May 2023.
I hope you enjoy this pictorial stroll beside a canal in the north west of England in the most pleasant of Sunday sunshine:
