Welcome to Ironbridge! Sunday 4th June 2023 (Author’s Collection).
As you’ll discover with a simple flick through my “UK Travel” library here, I enticed my son to accompany me to my spiritual home of Ironbridge on 31st May and yes, just four days later and with a UK Summer still with us, I persuaded him to walk with me along the River Severn once more, a walk we’ve jointly enjoyed hundreds of times, and all with the promise of a box of fish and chips beside the “Grand Old Lady” of Ironbridge.

So here’s a World Heritage Site in full summer bloom or, in the lyrical words of Bruce Springsteen, “gleaming in the sun”, and I hope you enjoy this pictorial stroll beside the River Severn.
View from on high and a “Viewing Platform” at nearby Coalbookdale with everything in one image, from the ducks, families and pleasure seekers beside the River Severn, to the canoeists travelling on the river and the winding walk to Ironbridge itself with the bridge just visible as the river narrows at the top of the image.

The “Grand Old Lady” of Ironbridge.
View from the middle of the bridge and I’ve rarely seen it as busy as this. Wonderful to see in such beautiful sunshine.

The River Severn flowing away from Ironbridge heading south/west but first, the nearby villages of Jackfield and Coalport.

As seen from the memorial to the two World Wars situated next to the High Street.
