A writing ambition achieved.
I have a healthy distrust for the clatter of the letterbox as it invariably signals yet more of life’s problems to be looked at, with a cursory glance, before umpteen swear words follow and those unwelcome invasions into my life are summarily thrown into a kitchen cupboard to be dealt with another day. Tomorrow maybe, or at least after the weekend or in some cases, never at all. This morning was no different, however there was a cherry red surprise on top of my delivery cake and I couldn’t be more proud.
Self congratulatory and indeed self deprecating nonsense aside, the article linked at the bottom of this paragraph has been deemed worthy enough of publication in Liverpool’s longest running and now only remaining fanzine and as you’ll also read in the second article linked immediately below, I’ve long been a supporter of such independent publications and now I’m a published writer inside a fanzine I used to collect and read religiously.

I’m a published writer! (kind of)
“Mr Writer, why don’t you tell it like it is?”medium.com
With the Reds of Liverpool and the Blues of Everton, separated by a large public park and under a mile from each other, meeting on Monday 13th February in yet another “Merseyside Derby”, a desperate editor needing new writers and new articles deemed my retrospective article on a derby day game from four decades ago worthy of publication and across four pages in his latest publication, sits my very article. Aside from half a dozen words deleted due to date relevancy, my article has been published as is, and I couldn’t be more proud.
It’s certainly not the road to fame and fortune by any means whatsoever but my off the cuff piece of writing may now be read by current friends, old friends and perhaps my oldest Liverpool match going friend who I haven’t spoken with or to for many years. Similarly, my article may be read by thousands of Liverpool fans around the fields of Anfield Road and perhaps further afield and around the world, and I dare hope that on Monday night into Tuesday morning, many hundreds of fans will be reading this latest edition of an independently produced publication, for the fans by the fans, on their individual ways home after hopefully a resounding win for the Reds of Liverpool.
Though judging on recent results, probably not!
Thanks for reading. There’s a plethora of articles both ancient and modern within my archival list under “Liverpool FC” and within a cave of other wondrous wonders encompassing film, television, free writing, existentialism and UK travel. Should you be here for the Mighty Reds of Liverpool, can I draw your attention to my three most recently published articles to whet your appetite?
