I made the cut again. What larks!
I’ve been tooting my own horn recently which is always a dangerous endeavour at the best of times. With my first book published on Kindle and approved for printing as both a paperback and a hardback, it’s been a celebratory week which of course has ended, as only it can within the confines of my tiny mind, with every evening disconsolately trudging to bed wracked with uncertainty as to the finished product now open to the reading world. Not the words, good God no! They are as perfectly crafted as I wish them to be. But the vagaries of preparing a suitable image for the cover of my book and the bewildering process of Amazon’s strict printing guidelines and parameters have sent me to the depths of despair wondering if any of this hullabaloo was really worth the tears of frustrating failure I’ve shed. For I am an emotional man, make no mistake about that, and being born just a few miles from the French coast I’ve often joked that I should in fact be that stereotypically hyper emotional European, rather than the supposedly stoic English Gentleman I have to pretend to be.
What does all this have to do with being featured, yet again, in a Liverpool Football Club fanzine I hear you scream? Absolutely nothing come to mention it, but I have published my first book on Kindle and I am, come hell, high water or even perhaps the English Channel that separates me from my rightful emotional birthplace, I am going to lick those befuddling printing margins of doom on Amazon, and I will have my first book available in print too.
I’m on the case.
The tide is high.
There’s a wind in my sails and if all else fails, and just like The Beatles, I’ll Cry Instead.

So I’ve made the cut again in Liverpool’s longest running and only remaining fanzine and if you read the articles linked at the bottom of this paragraph you’ll understand why I’m a very proud, if overly emotional man, this afternoon. This is my fourth article now for the fanzine and an independent publication I’ve long trumpeted, supported (though a current lapsed subscriber) and used to collect avidly for over two decades.
Tomorrow, the Mighty Reds of Liverpool face off with the tottering and tumbling Tottenham Hotspur for 3 more precious Premier League points and the Editor has seen fit to print a retrospective article from four decades ago I originally penned a year or so ago.
Couldn’t be more proud if you paid me, but you could try.
Must dash as I have to battle with the Amazon printing parameters of utter bloody doom.
I have a book out! Kind of. Here’s the (current) front cover. Free to read if you have the “Unlimited” package on Kindle.
Treat yourself!
Thanks for reading. There are a wealth of articles on Liverpool FC within my archives but here are the articles linked to my odyssey of being a very proud contributor to an independent fanzine:
