Norbury Junction on the Shropshire Union Canal, Thursday 8th June 2023 (Author’s Collection).
Gnosall
Absolute little gem of the Shropshire Union Canal I first stumbled across 6/7 years ago and return as often as life presents itself, or when I fancy dragging a somewhat reluctant, moaning teenager from the darkness of a gaming console and into the light of Summer sunshine! From “The Navigation Inn” to “The Boat Inn”, this is a picture perfect brief stroll along the Shropshire Union Canal.
Beautiful Gnosall and the Shropshire Union Canal heading north to Norbury Junction in 3 or so miles.
Picture Perfect Gnosall.
Say hello to “Barolo Number 3” as she heads on her merry way to Norbury Junction.
View from beneath Bridge Number 35 of the Shropshire Union Canal known as “Newport Road Bridge” and the beginning of a short but beautiful canal side stroll.
Return view of “Newport Road Bridge” and some friendly ducks!
“The Boat Inn” in beautiful Gnosall.
View from Bridge Number 34 of the Shropshire Union Canal or “Boat Inn Bridge”, and the entirety of this short pub-to-pub canal walk from “The Navigation Inn” (beside) Newport Road Bridge ahead and the wonderful “The Boat Inn” here. I adore this view!
Final return view from “Newport Road Bridge” and the entirety of this short canal walk.
Norbury Junction
The reluctant teenager I spoke of earlier accompanied me today and so I simply had to re-tell the story once more of him spending his first Christmas as a bawling baby boy in the huge white house you’ll be seeing shortly, and which forms a lovely backdrop to beautiful Norbury Junction. 3 or so miles north from Gnosall and the centre of a brilliant locks filled walk north through the heart of the Shropshire Union Canal, I adore Norbury Junction and I love having a story I can always embarrass my son with!
View from Bridge Number 38 of the Shropshire Union Canal or “Norbury Bridge” heading north and the bulk middle section of the canal leading ultimately to the merging with the Manchester Ship Canal.
View from “Norbury Bridge” heading south to Gnosall and ultimately Autherley Junction near Wolverhampton where the Shropshire Union merges with the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal.
