I've been looking forward to this movie for a long time. To hear that it doesn't disappoint is great. My biggest problem with Roman historical, it that they seldom stick to actual history. But Ridley Scott seems to actually read history before embarking on these epics. I'm willing to let them bend a few of the facts to move the narrative along...but I still have to wait until next weekend.

For some reason Ben (and I don’t know why as here in the UK we’re always behind) this has opened before the US/rest of the world. I loved it, but I was an easy sell! Been a sucker for a good Ridley Scott film for as long as I can remember and this really does justice to the original. Again, an easy sell, but I was mighty impressed except for one silly fight scene which should have seen the cutting room floor. I’ll leave you to decide which one but anyway, hope you enjoy it next weekend. Thanks for reading.

If it’s the Emperor, and his name is Commodus — or was it Caracalla — then it really happened. Let’s hope that’s it!

Joaquin Phoenix played Commodus in the original and Caraculla and his twin(?) are in this sequel. As a pair they’re interesting to say the least!

Excellent! I love it when they get the history right. I sure hope it leads into Septimius Severus. And Caracalla had a brother...but, pretty sure he killed him because he didn't want to share. Puts a whole new spin on sibling rivalry.

Let’s just say some of this is covered in the movie…I don’t want to hint at any spoilers.
