Hey David. I won't presume you've read my article but I've tried and failed to love Inherent Vice 4/5 times now despite my love for all things Paul Thomas Anderson and Joaquin Phoenix. Rewatched it as part of a larger "project" (long story!) and still don't love it. Need to get into Pynchon now that I've finished re-reading my collection of Hunter S Thompson. Thanks for the note here, nice one.
I read your article with much interest b/c I recall buying the Blu Ray back in 2013 and never viewing it. I was hoping it would be as good as my experience with Pynchon's books (tho I haven't read Inherent Vice) and it was interesting to see you going back and forth on it. Aside from Gravity my favourite Pynchon is The Crying of Lot 49. Your article also made me recall painfully that my marriage breakup about 13 years ago parted me from my favourite Pynchon's. Guess will have to buy them all over again. My ex and I get along well, but her being a PhD in American Lit meant I had zero chance of recovering my Pynchon's, lol.
Oh blimey! I resurrected memories of the marriage break up too! The hits just keep on a-coming with me! Thanks for reading the article and yes I want to love it in line with the rest of PTA's films (which I obsess over) but I don't. From what I've read the film follows the structure of the book, but I can't vouch for that. Have a birthday coming up and enjoy getting a book for Christmas/Birthdays - Should I ask for The Crying of Lot 49 or is there an "easier" introduction to Pynchon? Thanks again for reading. I assume no-one ever does!
Born in the age of Aquarius and in a leap year (which probably says a lot and which I couldn't explain anyway!)
Thanks for the recommendation(s). I'll ask the ex and my son if they'll be kind enough to get me either IV, Gravity's Rainbow or The Crying Lot of 49. I'll leave it up to them!
Bought the blu ray
Back in the day
But never watched it
Big Pynchon fan
V and Gravity's Rainbow
