Thanks for the link. Haven't scooped up the courage to watch the remake as I revere the original and believe it to be horribly brilliant. One of those "watched as a young man, had the VHS, watched over and over until the tape warped" kind of deals.
I am the same. I was fascinated by the idea of a redo, but 1) They didn’t know what they were doing, and 2) Apparently they ran out of money, abandoned the movie, then came back to finish? NOT GREAT SIGNS. The original is a stone-cold classic to me.
Your last sentence chimes with me entirely. As I say in my rambling review, whenever anyone has mentioned Tim Robbins/Vietnam movies or conspiracy tinged allusions to the horrors inflicted on US (and UK troops) in the forever war, I always cite Jacob's Ladder. Quite the run of movies for TR in the absolute peak of his career. I'll watch the remake.....I'm just not in any hurry to!
