Your low opinion of VAR is likely shared by North American sports fans towards its equivalents here. I know for sure it's as low as my low one on Hollywood's overreliance on CGI animation at the expense of the 2D form I love.
I share your antipathy toward CGI and for VAR, it works in certain sports but those are stop/start affairs anyway (rugby/baseball/gridiron etc) but Saturday evening showed it in its truest colours. Twitter is ablaze in conspiracy theories that it's "always Liverpool" and biased against them/us, but it isn't. It's horribly biased against everyone!
